Abstract

1,162,917. Rolling. DOMINION ENG. WORKS Ltd. 28 July, 1967, No. 34737/67. Heading B3M. A rolling mill screwdown includes a non- rotatable screw 29 positioned within an adjustable nut 30, the screw abutting at its lower end a bearing chock 23, and carrying at its upper end transverse arms 58. The arms have at their ends rollers 59 which are restrained in guides 57 to move vertically and thus prevent rotation of the screw 29. The nut 30 is fixed to a sleeve 34 which is rotatable by means of a motor driven worm-wheel 49. The guides 57 can alternatively be inclined so that the movement of the screw in response to rotation of the motor is suitably reduced or augmented.
