Abstract

[Also in Divisions E2 and F2] An adjustable support for a head and back rest on a stretcher comprises two telescopic tubes B, B<SP>1</SP> , the inner end of the inner tube B<SP>1</SP> carrying a cylindrical pad C, through which passes a central spring-loaded rod D<SP>1</SP>, which has a tapered end D and a handle d<SP>1</SP> for moving the rod relative to the pad so that the tapered end either expands or releases the pad so that it either grips or releases the outer tube. The pad C is made of resilient material, e.g. rubber, and is bonded to a collar C on the inner tube. The rod D<SP>1</SP> carries a truncated cone D which is slidable within a bore in the pad when the rod is axially moved. The tubes are connected at their outer ends to members b<SP>1</SP> and b which are pivotally connected to the headrest A and a support a<SP>1</SP> for the stretcher respectively.
