1,162,195. Linear measuring apparatus. VEB DRUCKMASCHINENWERKE LEIPZIG. Jan. 17, 1968, No.2568/68. Heading G1M. A device for measuring the thickness of a covering 17 on a drum 7 comprises a guide bar 3 along which a measuring block 6 is movable, the bar 3 being provided with side members 4 for contacting bearing rings 5 of the drum 7 and the measuring block 6 being provided with a scanning pin 8 which is movable radially of the axis of the drum 7 and is arranged to make contact with the covering 17. The position of the scanning pin 8 relative to the block may be indicated by a scale 12 on the pin which is viewed through a microscope 13. A wire 9 may be arranged to pass through the block 6 parallel to the axis of the drum 7 and zero setting is effected by observing the wire through a microscope 12 and by an adjustment 15 which moves the block 6 relative to the wire 9.
