Abstract

1,161,291. Bowden mechanism; tube joints. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Sept., 1966 [4 Sept., 1965], No. 37893/65. Addition to 1,033,768. Headings F2G and F2K. A fitting for anchoring an outer sheath 2 of a Bowden cable in an aperture in a support comprises a tubular member 5 of plastics material moulded on to the end of sheath 2 and having two limbs 7 which are connected at their ends to a ring 8. The limbs 7 are separated by axial slots 10 in each of which is disposed a spring finger 9 extending from the ring 8. A shoulder 16 is formed at the end of each finger 9 and is adapted to engage one side of the support, a flange 13 engaging the other side of the support. In a modification, a large diameter fitting 35 carries a sleeve 36 which is urged resiliently into engagement with the support by an integral resilient flange 37. In a further modification, a flanged sleeve 17 is adapted to be pushed into the member 5 to prevent inward movements of spring fingers 9.
