Abstract
1292036 Bowden mechanisms; flexible shafts SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 March 1970 [20 June 1969] 31205/69 Headings F2K and F2U An outer sheath 2 for a flexible cable 1 is adapted to be mounted in an aperture in a support 25 by a fitting 5 of plastics material such as nylon, comprising an end portion 16 surrounding the end of the sheath 2, two tapered limbs 17 extending from the portion 16 and being joined at their ends by an integral ring 18, and two displaceable resilient fingers 20 integral with the ring 18 and extending between the limbs 17 and having shoulders 21 which are adapted to engage one side of the support 25. A sleeve 35 carries a resilient flange 38 which engages the opposite side of support 25, and carries inner projections 36 which are adapted, on rotation of the sleeve 35, to move the fingers 20 inwardly so that the fitting 5 may be withdrawn from the aperture. In a modification, an aperture 46, Fig. 9, has inclined portions 42 which may be utilized to disengage the fingers 20 when the plate 40 is moved laterally to the right. In a further modification, the disengaging member comprises a washer 45, Fig. 10.
