Abstract
1,160,849. Thermionic cathode constructions. SIEMENS A.G. 16 July, 1968 [17 July, 1967], No. 33804/68. Heading H1D. An indirectly heated dispenser cathode comprises a self-supporting heater element in the form of an uninsulated cylindrical heater coil 6 arranged between two thick cylindrical metal casings 3, 5 of the same length, the inner casing 3 having a central passage which houses the emissive charge container 18 and having an external transverse flange 2 with an annular upstanding ridge 4 to which the porous emissive-substance carrier plate 1 is attached, and the outer casing 5 being attached to the transverse flange 2 opposite the upstanding ridge 4. Preferably, the topmost turn of the heater coil 6 is received by a clamping ring 22 located beneath flange 2 and heater coil 6 terminates in two connector pins 7 insulatingly secured in a base-plate 10 which is inserted in support cylinder 17 attached to the transverse flange 2. As shown, support cylinder 17, which also serves as a radiation shield, may have a number of transverse slots which act as a heat brake between the base plate 10 and casings 3, 5, and additional transverse radiation shield plates 11, 12, 13 may also be provided in the region of the slots. This construction enables the charge container 18, with castellated rim 19, to be inserted in position last, after all the other parts have been tested.
