Abstract
1,159,936. Vehicle headlamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 Sept., 1966 [4 Sept., 1965], No. 38998/66. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] A vehicle headlamp comprises a first reflector part 1 formed by revolving a parabola about an axis X substantially parallel to the axis IX of the parabola and a second reflector part 2 formed as a paraboloid with axis XI. The zone of contact between the parts may lie in a single horizontal plane or in two planes which intersect along the axis X and one of which is inclined at 15 degrees below the horizontal. A screen 14 shaped as half a right circular cylinder extends from the vertex of the part 1 to the plane V containing the locus of the focus of the generating parabola, the semi-circular end of the screen coinciding with this locus, and a first filament 15 extending along the axis X is situated so that the greater portion of its length is disposed on the opposite side of the plane V from the screen. A second filament 23 passes through the focus 22 of the reflector part 2, and may lie on the axis XI or be inclined, e.g. at right angles, to this axis. The closure glass 3 (Fig. 2, not shown) is designed to spread the light horizontally, the lower half of the glass having an annular edge zone (31) which spreads the light more than the upper half (33), and this half in turn spreading the light more than the remainder (32) of the lower half. The end 16 of the filament 15 is disposed on the line joining the focus 22 to the lower edge 24 of the reflector part 2, so that light emitted by the filament 15 and reflected by the part 2 is directed downwardly. The lamp may be of the sealed beam type or may employ two iodine bulbs.
