Abstract

1,158,829. Change-speed control. IFA GETRIEBEWERKE BRANDENBURG VEB. 4 Aug., 1967, No. 35912/67. Heading F2D. A change-speed gear is controlled by a manual gear lever movable in a gate, and is preceded by an auxiliary two-speed gear controlled by switches which are actuated on movement of the gear lever into a position establishing a ratio in the main gear. As shown a countershaft gear providing four forward and one reverse ratio is controlled by a gear lever, movement of which into a gear establishing position closes a respective switch 14 to complete a circuit to a solenoid controlled valve 6 or 7 which is thus actuated to supply pneumatic pressure to a chamber 11 or 16 of a servo 10 to engage the appropriate ratio of the auxiliary gear. In its end positions the servo 10 opens a switch 15 or 17 to open the circuit to the appropriate valve 6 or 7 so that the servo is relieved of pressure. In a modification a third solenoid operated valve is actuated by a cam controlled switch when the gear lever is in its neutral position and serves to shift the servo to a neutral position so that the main change-speed gear is uncoupled from the engine during shift to reduce the load on its synchronizing devices. In this modification the servo has two pistons slidable on a rod and abuttable against collars thereon, the third valve controlling supply of pressure to a space between the two pistons.
