Abstract

1,158,696. Distillation apparatus, immersion heaters. HERAEUS-SCHOTT QUARZSCHMELZE G.m.b.H. 11 April, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 17673/68. Heading BIB. [Also in Division H5] Water, or other liquid, is distilled by boiling it in flask 1 surmounted by condenser 6, both of which are made of fused silica, the flask 1 being provided with an electric heating element 14 enveloped by a quartz envelope 13 which is surrounded by a container 12 made of transparent fused silica. The envelope 13 may also consist of transparent fused silica. The electric heating element 14 is adapted to be heated to about 2000‹C. The water to be distilled is introduced into the apparatus through inlet 4; and .the distillate is withdrawn through conduit 8. Flask 1 is surrounded by a heat-insulating jacket 16 made of glass wool, quartz wool or kieselguhr. A heat-reflecting foil may be provided between flask 1 and jacket 16. In apparatus of large capacity, four immersion heaters may be distributed over the cross-section of the distilling vessel.
