Abstract
1,169,843. Immersion heaters. HERAEUSSCHOTT QUARZSCHMELZE G.m.b.H. 10 April, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 17413/68. Heading H5H. An immersion heater comprises a tungsten heating wire 2 in a quartz envelope 1, the envelope being arranged in a container 6 of transparent fused silica. The quartz envelope may comprise transparent or opaque fused silica and it may be evacuated. Wire 2 an be heated to 2000‹ C. and radiates heat at a power of 10 watts/sq. cm. of envelope area. A tapered ground section (7, Fig. 1) at at least one end of container 6 allows it to be mounted in a corresponding tapered opening of a distilling vessel. One or both ends of container 6 may be closed by an insulating stopper 5, electric connections being provided at both ends in the latter case. The envelope 1 and container 6 may both be rod-shaped. Discs or springs 15 support wire 2.
