Abstract
1,158,693. Control of A.C. motors. DANFOSS A/S. 27 Feb., 1968 [14 March, 1967], No. 9346/68. Heading H2J. [Also in Division H1] A thermostat 11 closes a main switch 5 to energize the main winding 3 of a single-phase motor, the current passing through an auxiliary winding 4 of the motor being reduced to a low value by resistor 6. The latter heats bimetals 8, 9, of which the element 8 deflects rapidly towards the right and engages the slower element 9 which moves in the same direction. The winding 4 is then fully energized to start the motor. The elements 8, 9, are further heated by the starting current until element 8 engages stop 10 to open the bimetal switch and reduce the current in the winding 4 to a low value. The bimetal switch remains open until the motor is switched off.
