Abstract
1442373 Control of A.C. motors DANFOSS AS 4 Oct 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 46389/73 Heading H2J A single phase asynchronous motor 1 having main and starting windings 2, 3 is controlled by a starting device comprising thermal switches 7, 9 and a resistor 8, each switch being of the type responsive to either the current flowing through it when closed or the glow discharge across it when open, switch 7 being normally-closed, switch 9 normally-open and the value of resistor 8 being chosen so that during starting the following sequence of operations occur: (1) Closure of main switch 4 causes a low current to pass through members 3, 7, 8. (2) The resultant glow discharge produced by resistor 8 across switch 9 causes it to close after a time delay T 1 and produce full starting current through the winding 3. (3) This full current causes a bimetal element 10 to open switch 7 after a tune delay T 2 to reduce the current to another low value (dependent on the glow discharge ecross switch 7). (4) Switch 9, which has been kept closed by a bimetal 11 during the passage of full current, opens after a time delay following the opening of switch 7, thus further reducing the current and terminating the starting action, since the resultant voltage across resistor 8 is insufficient to produce further glow discharge across and closure of switch 9, and the switch 7 is maintained open by its glow discharge until the switch 4 is opened to de-energize the motor. Typical characteristics are discussed relating the voltage, current and condition of members 3, 7, 8 and 9 to time, Fig. 2 (not shown), and comparison is made with the starting device described in Specification 1,086,968.
