Abstract

1,158,421. Coated textiles. LINEN INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 14 July, 1966 [22 May, 1965; 7 Dec., 1965], Nos. 21760/65 and 51755/65. Heading B2E. [Also in Division B5] The resistance to abrasion, quality of drape, stiffness or retention of shape of preselected areas of a piece of textile sheet material are modified to impart such modified properties to corresponding areas of a finished article made up from the piece by applying a synthetic resin to those areas and causing the resin to adhere thereto by the application of heat and pressure, the resin being provided in the form of a film, either continuous or discontinuous, which is positioned on the textile material and covered by a barrier, the heat and pressure being applied to the reverse side of the barrier which is subsequently removed to leave the film on the surface of the textile material. The resin may be printed onto one face of a release paper which forms the barrier and applied to the textile material in this form or may form an unsupported film which is applied to the textile fabric and a barrier e.g. paper, subsequently applied thereover. The resin may be applied overall within the preselected areas, or in accordance with some pattern e.g. two intersecting sets of parallel lines forming diamond shaped areas having no resin thereon, or as scattered dots, within the preselected areas. The resin may be nylon, acrylic or vinyl resins, or a polyurethane. The material may be held on a moulded shape prior to the application of the resin whereby the resin imparts properties to the preselected areas whereby they tend to fall into the moulded shape.
