A distributor for distributing liquid over packing in gas/liquid contact apparatus comprises a trough 2 to which liquid is supplied continuously and from which the liquid is periodically discharged by a siphon 3 into a tray 5 with liquid outflow openings arranged above the packing. The trough 2 may be divided into a number of sections each with a siphon discharging into a tray 5. A perforated block of contact material 9 may be arranged below the tray or trays 5 and above the packing 6 as shown.
