1,177,621. Purifying exhaust gases. R. B. BRIDGWOOD. 3 Jan., 1967 [4 Jan., 1966; 25 March, 1966], Nos. 292/66 and 13242/66. Heading B1R. Exhaust gases to be purified enter a chamber 1 at 2 and aspirate water from the bottom of the chamber so that the gases are sprayed with water from a nozzle 11, the chamber also containing an inclined baffle plate 9 below nozzle 11 and a perforated plate 8 in the water in the container, the sprayed gases pass out of the chamber into an upwardly inclined passage 15 where they follow a tortuous path between nozzle-shaped members 16 and cup-shaped baffles 17 to an outlet 5. In a modification the gases after being sprayed with water pass upwardly through a vertical passage containing inclined apertured baffles.
