Abstract

1,157,990. Adjustable stands. RONFORD Ltd. 27 Oct., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 52783/66. Heading A4H. Each extensible leg of a portable stand for a camera, electrical apparatus or scientific instrument comprises a first pair of tubular members 34 slidable in a block 35 and secured to a body portion 39, and a second pair of tubular members 37 slidable in the body portion 39 and secured to the block 35, and a clamp 31 within the body portion 39 adapted to clamp the second pair of tubular members 37 to the body portion 39. The clamp comprises a locking member 41 screwed into the body portion 39 and provided with a conical surface 43 in abutment with two clamping members 47 slidably mounted in passages in the body portion 39 and having concave ends complementary to the conical surface 43 and to the second pair of tubular members 37. The upper end of each leg is U-shaped and each limb (14, 15, Fig. 5) of the U is pivotally connected separately to a wall of a recess (5) in the head of the stand by a bolt (21), the head (22) of which may be inside the recess (5) and the retaining nut (24) outside or vice versa. A flat on each head or nut engages the back plate (16) of the U-shaped upper end of the leg to cause the bolts 21 to rotate with the leg. A camera may be screwed on to a spring- urged threaded coupling (10) (Fig. 4) projecting from the top (8) of the pivoted head of the stand.
