A display or like stand has a support member 1 mounted on a base member 3 by means including a rod with central portion 4 and bent end parts 5, 6, 7, 8 pivotally mounted in plates 9, 10 a rod with main portion 11 also pivoted to plate 9 and secured to a plate 14 and a rod with main part 19 pivoted to plate 10 and movable between plate 14 and a clamping plate 15 the part 4 being also slidable between these plates so that the stand can be locked in adjusted position by means of a nut 16 and bolt 17.
