[Also in Divisions C3 and D1] A fire-resistant laminate may contain a core sheet of paper impregnated with a phenolic resin solution to which has been added 0À05- 0À15 moles per mole of phenol of phosphoric acid, at least 3 moles of ammonia per mole of phosphoric acid and sufficient formaldehyde to yield 1 mole of formaldehyde per mole of ammonia not condensed with phenol. In Example 4, 8 layers of unsized sodium kraft paper containing kaolin and impregnated with such a resin solution were laminated with a decorative sheet impregnated with a melamine resin. In Example 5 the layers used in Example 4 together with a sheet of phenolic resin were pressed on to chipboard.
