Abstract
1308699 Laminates WILLIAM H MOSS RESEARCH Ltd 24 Sept 1971 [26 June 1970] 31025/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Electrically-insulating laminates are made by impregnating an alpha-cellulose paper web with a thermosetting resin varnish, passing it through a hot-air drying oven to produce a web having a resin content of 60% and a volatile content of 5%, cutting the web into sheets which are assembled and consolidated into a laminate using heat and pressure. The varnish comprises a resin prepared by the condensation reaction of a mixture of (i) phenol, (ii) one or more dihydroxydiphenylmethanes and/or one or more bishydroxybenzyl phenols and (iii) HCHO in the presence of NH 3 as catalyst, and industrial methylated spirits.
