Abstract
1,142,673. Paper laminate. SœD-WESTCHEMIE G.m.b.H. 4 Feb., 1966 [9 Feb., 1965], No. 5037/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] A process for the production of a laminate comprises: (a) impregnating paper by passing a paper web through a solution of an impregnating melamine-formaldehyde resin, which is sufficiently dilute to allow uniform impregnation of the paper, (b) drying the impregnated paper, (c) coating the impregnated paper with a solution of a coating resin, (d) drying the coated paper and (e) bonding the paper by the action of pressure and heat to a substrate e.g. a laminate or substrate made of wood fibre, the degree of condensation of the impregnating resin in the impregnating solution being less than the degree of condensation of the coating resin in the coating solution by such an amount that both resins will exhibit substantially the same flow properties and hardening rates after step (d).
