Improvements made to the object of the main patent No. 421,851 applied for on December 28, 1973 for: "A process for preparing a consolidated decorative laminate", according to which to prepare the decorative front, which comprises a support substrate, a decorative sheet and a wear surface layer, the support substrate being a lignocellulosic material, a metal foil or a board of an inorganic material, the decorative foil being a decorative fibrous foil impregnated with a first noble thermosetting resin (as defined in the specification), and the wear surface layer being a coating, on that surface of the decorative sheet furthest from the support substrate, comprising a second noble thermosetting resin (as defined in the specification) and finely divided barium sulfate; Said improvements are characterized in that: (a) the decorative fibrous sheet is impregnated with a varnish comprising a first noble thermosetting resin (as defined in the specification); (b) the impregnated sheet is coated, on a decorative face thereof, with a composition comprising a second noble thermosetting resin (as defined in the specification) and finely divided barium sulfate; (c) the sheet is dried after step (b), and optionally also after step (a); (d) said sheet is mounted, in superimposed relationship on the support substrate, with the decorative coated face remote from the support substrate; and (e) the whole is consolidated by heat and pressure.
