Abstract
1,157,301. Evaporators, vapour-compression type. COURTAULDS Ltd. 23 Nov., 1966 [24 Nov., 1965], No. 49925/65. Heading B1B. [Also in Division F4] A heat exchanger for an evaporator of the vapour-compression type comprises a plurality of vertical tubes 4 in which vapour is condensed by a film of distilland flowing down the outer surface of each tube, eacn tube having a constriction at its lower end so that vapour flowing from a header 6 into the tubes tends to be uniformly distributed to all the tubes. The apparatus shown is for the desalination of sea water and utilizes thin-walled, upright polyethylene tubes 4. The restricting means for each tube is provided by a suitably sized orifice 22 formed in the tube plate 3 at the lower end of the tube assembly. The apparatus is otherwise the same as that described in Specification 1,139,810.
