Abstract

1,033,187. Tubular heat exchangers; refrigerating. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD CORPORATION. April 3, 1965, No. 14216/65. Heading F4H and F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a plurality of horizontal straight tubes 16 arranged in vertical rows within a casing 10 and communicating between headers 18 and 20, horizontal dripper tubes 40 being arranged one above each row of tubes 16, each tube 40 having holes 42 spaced along its upper portion alternately on opposite sides of the vertical centre line to permit fluid to ooze out of the tube 40 and flow downwardly around the tube 40 to drip on to the tubes 16. The respective ends of the dripper tubes 40 are attached to troughs 34, 36 and 38 which are supplied with fluid by a supply conduit 22 through different diameter holes to ensure an even flow into all the troughs. The level of the fluid in the troughs is governed by an overspill hole in the trough walls, thus ensuring a maximum pressure of fluid in the dripper tubes 40. A drain port is located in the bottom of at least one trough to drain the liquid from the tubes 40 when the heat exchanger is not in use. The heat exchanger may be used as a generator, absorber or evaporator in an absorption type refrigeration system.
