Abstract

[Also in Division E1] A construction element, e.g. a panel comprising a core with a facing attached thereto, has internal cavities filled with a pulverulent mixture containing sodium borate as a fire-resistant agent. The mixture may also contain a powdered sound-insulating and/or heat-resistant agent, e.g. sand, refractory earth, cement, lime, crushed porcelain, pumice, vermiculite, asbestos, plaster or wood flour. There may be 20-60 g. sodium borate per litre mixture. The construction element may have a core of agglomerated organic material, e.g. wood, flax, or straw; it may have a facing stuck to the core. The mixture may be included in tubular cavities, or in cavities inside a casing surrounding a part to be protected, e.g. a post, pole, pipe, conduit, or flue. After filling, the element with mixture may be heated to 60-180‹ C. to harden at least the periphery of the mixture.
