Abstract

1,156,456. Carbon black; carbon electrodes. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 13 March, 1967 [20 April, 1966], No. 11728/67. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C5] In a fluidized bed process for producing gases and coke from a hydrocarbon feed (see Division C5) carbon black produced is admixed or slurried with the feed and reintroduced into a low temperature zone of the process to form further coke. The carbon black is produced in a high temperature zone which is maintained at 2000‹ to 2400‹ F., and preferably does not exceed 2200‹ F. Coke produced varying in size from 95 to 180 microns is mixed with finely ground coke from the same source, blended with coal tar binder and prebaked to form an electrode.
