Electrode and resistance furnaces.-In furnaces in which the hearth acts as a heating-resistance, the supply to the three, or multiple of three, upper electrodes is fed from a three-phase supply through a transformer having its secondary starconnected, with one of its windings reversed. In a modification, in addition to the secondary windings OA, OB, OC, connected to the upper electrodes, the lower electrode is connected to a. fourth secondary OD, the primary b, d of the winding being in series with the primary d, a of the secondary OB. The point d at which the primary is divided is variable.
