Abstract

1,154,121. Machine for inserting letters &c. into envelopes. MATH. BAUERLE G.m.b.H. 10 June, 1966 [14 June, 1965], No. 25996/66. Heading B8C. Letters and envelopes are fed from separate magazines to a common plane in which the envelopes move in a particular direction and the letters are fed into them at right angles to that direction. As shown, the envelopes 6 are removed from a magazine 1 by means (9-20), Fig. 1 (not shown), as described in Specification 1,084,262, and deposited on a table 22 which is provided with slots 23. The envelope is impelled by transfer levers 25 past flap opening means comprising an air blast from a nozzle 36, and a plough member 37. Conveying rollers 38 move the envelope beneath a roller 39 which moistens the adhesive on the flap 7. Thrust pawls 44 move the envelope to the position where the enclosures are inserted by moving it against temporarily raised stop bars 45. The enclosures 53 are removed from magazine 52 by a suction device (not shown) and rollers 16<SP>1</SP>, analogous to the device for magazine 1. The enclosure is then inserted in the envelope by transfer levers 54 operating similarly to transfer levers 25, and by pawls 55 similar to pawls 44. To facilitate insertion, a blast nozzle 56 and openers 57 moved in the transverse direction are provided. The filled envelope is moved by levers 58 to pass between rollers 61, arriving at a delivery table 62 provided with slots 63 through which pass transfer levers 64. Rollers 65 press down and seal the flap 7. Additional enclosures 66 may be inserted by the constructions shown in broken lines, where 67 is a further magazine, 16<SP>11</SP> rollers, 68 transfer levers similar to levers 25, and 69 driving rollers similar to rollers 38, the additional enclosures travelling in a path parallel to that of the envelopes and being placed upon the first enclosures 53.
