Abstract

1,153,737. Explosive compositions. WASAGCHEMIE A.G. 25 Oct., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965: 30 June, 1966], No. 47874/66. Heading C1D. A safety explosive for use in mines comprises a high explosive sensitizer, an alkali metal nitrate, optionally ammonium chloride, and an ammonium salt of an organic acid of 1-4 carbon atoms, the oxygen balance of the composition being from -2 to + 5%; alternatively, the explosive may comprise a high explosive sensitizer, an alkali metal nitrate, ammonium chloride, and an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of an organic acid of 2-4 carbon atoms, the oxygen balance being as stated above. In examples, the compositions contain nitroglycerine, nitroglycol, potassium and sodium nitrate, ammonium chloride, oxalate, formate, and thiocyanate, and sodium acetate. Other organic salts referred to are ammonium acetate, glycollate, and malonate. Calcium, magnesium, or iron carbonate may be present to neutralize HCl formed when ammonium chloride is in excess. Other ingredients of the explosive compositions are guar flour and carboxy-methyl cellulose.
