Abstract
1,153,612. Waste-disposal apparatus. T. C. R. SHEPHERD. 28 March, 1967 [7 April, 1966; 3 May, 1966], Nos. 15768/66 and 19343/66. Heading B2A. [Also in Division F2] A safety guard for an electric waste-disposal apparatus comprises a stainless metal, hardrubber or plastics restrictor throat 23, Fig. 1, presenting a passage of safe dimensions, i.e. of 2" or less diameter. The comminutor and motor are detachably secured to the upper part of the apparatus by a hook 18, pivot 21 and screw attachment 22. In one embodiment, the drive-motor microswitch 26, Fig. 2, has an actuation arm 27 carrying a magnetic member 28. When the restrictor 23 is correctly located interaction between the permanent magnet 25 in the restrictor and the member 28 actuates the switch. The restrictor is sealed by a plug carrying pegs 30 Which engage channels 31. The plug is pushed home and then rotated clockwise so that it is lifted out of the restrictor to permit ingress of water to the comminutor. In this position plug and restrictor can be removed by a handle 29a. A cutlery saving guide (not shown) and anti-splash guard 20 may be provided. In a second embodiment, a peg on the restrictor surface engages a corresponding channel in the throat inlet tube 12 above a sealing ring 24. In one position the permanent magnet 25 is aligned with the member 28 and in a further position the members are out of alignment. The restrictor may in such case be either permanently in position or removable. The inlet-tube flange 13 and restrictor are suitably marked to indicate appropriate settings. The motor switch may alternatively be mechanically actuated by an operating member extending e.g. through the inlet tube 12 and engaged by a formation on the restrictor in the appropriate angular setting.
