Abstract

In a grate, particularly for an incinerator, having a downwardly inclined surface comprising grate sections supported on beams 12 mounted on the channels 2, each section comprises pairs of stationary bars 5 and bars 4 rocking upwardly about their forward edges. The upper surfaces of the bars of each pair are substantially co-planar, the rear edge of the rocking bar 4 having a shield coaxial with the trunnions of the bar and arranged to be scraped by the forward edge of the stationary bar 5 of the pair. The forward nose of each rocking bar is rounded coaxially with the trunnions, and is arranged to be scraped by the rear edge of the stationary bar 5 of the next pair, which is at a ' lower level. The moving bars of alternate pairs are linked together for operation by cylinders 38, 39, Each section has a wide top stationary bar 7, and a nosed stationary bottom bar 6 overlapping the wide top bar of the adjacent section.
