Abstract
1,152,670. Powder metallurgy. INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd. April 4, 1968 [April 5, 1967], No. 15694/67. Addition to 1,016,066. Heading C7D. A sintered coating of Ni is formed on wire or rod of a metal such as steel copper, brass, or Ni alloy by applying an aqueous slurry of Ni powder to the roughened surface, drying and sintering the layer and densifying the coating by a drawing operation. The Ni powder 3-5 microns size is formed into a slurry with water, methyl cellulose and polyoxyalkylated polyalkylene glycol. The coated wire is sintered e.g. at 1000‹C. in cracked ammonia, cold drawn to a reduction in area of 11-12%. After annealing at 700‹C. a second drawing to a reduction in area of 72% is effected and then a final annealing at 700‹C.
