Abstract
Method for preventing stress cracking or metallic brittleness of a zirconium or zirconium alloy container, useful for containing nuclear fuel material in order to obtain an improved nuclear fuel element, characterized in that it includes the operations consisting of: 1) roughening or chemically attacking the surface of the zirconium or zirconium alloy container, (2) oxidizing the resulting zirconium or zirconium alloy container, (3) activating the oxidized surface of (2) to allow the coating metal of this surface by means of non-electrolytic deposit, and (4) coating, in turn, the oxidized and activated surface of the zirconium or zirconium alloy container (3) with copper, iron or nickel, or an alloy of these metals.
