Abstract

1,152,375. Photographic direct-positive silver halide materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Nov.8, 1966 [Nov. 8, 1965], No.49932/66. Heading G2C. Photographic direct-positive silver halide materials showing reduced kink-mark desensitization comprise a support carrying a directpositive fogged silver halide emulsion layer in which the binder comprises a hydrophilic colloid and a water-insoluble vinyl polymer. Polymers specified are water-insoluble homopolymers and copolymers of acrylic acid, alkyl acrylates and alkyl methacrylates; including copolymers of alkyl acrylates with acrylic acid, copolymers of alkyl acrylates and methacrylates with a large number of specified vinyl monomers, copolymers of alkyl acrylates or methacrylates with acrylic acid and a sulphobetaine of the formula: - where R, R 2 and R 3 are each H or alkyl and R 1 and R 4 are saturated hydrocarbon radicals, and copolymers of alkyl acrylates or alkyl methacrylates with monomers of the formula: - where R is H or alkyl, R 1 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical or a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical in which the carbon chain is interrupted by O and/ or S atoms and M is a cation. The silver halide may have been fogged by light, by gold or noble metal sensitizers, sulphur sensitizers, formaldehyde, stannous chloride or thiourea dioxide, and may be of the internal latent image type or comprise silver chlorobromide grains having a surface of silver bromide. The emulsion may be of the lithographic type and may contain hardeners, stabilizers, spectral sensitizing dyes and onium salts.
