Abstract

1,151,709. Roller. BELOIT CORP. 13 Sept., 1966 [14 Oct., 1965], No. 40902/66. Heading F2U. [Also in Division F4] A roller 15 for drying felts used in a webdrying apparatus includes a shell having perforated periphery, means for admitting heated air to the interior of the roller shell, and a non- rotatable air distributing member within the roller shell and extending therealong and directing air to pass through the shell to the felt trained thereabout. In one embodiment the felt roller comprises a rotatably mounted perforated cylindrical steel shell 25 and a non-rotatable cylindrical air distributing member 26 in sealing engagement therewith. The part of the periphery of the member 26 facing the felt is perforated. The perforations may vary in density. The member 26 may have manually controlled rotatable valves 56 for closing off some of the perforations. The valves 56 each comprise two spoked wheels 70 joined by a semicylindrical shroud 74. The hot air is introduced through one end of the roller. In another embodiment (Fig. 7) the air distributing member is adjustable within the shell and comprises a semi-cylindrical portion 89 and spoke 93.
