Abstract
1,151,576. Aircraft weapon systems. ENTWICKLUNGSRING SœD G.m.b.H. 12 Oct., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 45706/66. Heading B7W. [Also in Division F3] An aircraft 1 releasably carrying a winged device 10 or 10<SP>1</SP> (such as a missile or a flare carrier) having adjustable control surfaces 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>11</SP>, 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, flies in low level high speed flight past a target 7 (e.g. at time t 0 ) releasing the missiles (e.g. at time t 1 ), the control surfaces having been set to give the missile a loopshaped trajectory to land on the target (e.g. at time t 2 ) a calculated interval after release. During this interval (t 1 , to t 2 ) the aircraft flies a distance a 2 which may be calculated to clear the bomb splinter area. The control surfaces 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>11</SP>, 14, 14<SP>1</SP> of a missile may be adjusted during its trajectory, the control surfaces being controlled either by the second set of aircraft controls in a dualcontrol aircraft, or by the pilot's aircraft controls, the aircraft being controlled by an autopilot. The aircraft may leave a smoke trail as it passes the target 65 to assist in the control of a missile carrying a television camera. The missile may split up in flight (e.g. at the top of its trajectory), Fig. 5 (not shown). The initial adjustment of the missile control surfaces may be calculated by a computer fed with the distance shown as a 1 , a 2 , b on Fig. 16, and with the trajectory height H and aircraft speed. The aircraft may have a series of temperature sensors 71 on its outer surface so that if the skin temperature rises above a desired amount the supply of fuel is reduced, Fig. 14 (not shown).
