Abstract

1,150,737. Cutting frozen fish. ICE ATLANTIC (FROZEN SEAFOODS) Ltd. 20 July, 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 32620/65. Heading A4C. [Also in Divisions A2 and B5] In a method and apparatus for manufacturing fish fingers, each in the form of a non-rectangular parallelepiped 11, Fig. 5, a frozen block of pressed, filleted fish 10 is cut, by a plurality of blades, along parallel, equally-spaced-apart cuts inclined at an oblique angle to the longitudinal axis of the block. The apparatus, Fig. 3, comprises a plurality of equally-spaced-apart circular saws 18 mounted on a rotating shaft disposed squarely across a conveyer, on which is mounted a magazine having an upstanding, backwardly sloping wall 24, which is disposed obliquely across the conveyer and is provided with a plurality of openings, through which the saws can freely pass. A frozen block is loaded into the magazine, so that the longitudinal axis of the block is parallel to the wall 24 and the block is on the side of the wall facing the saws. The conveyer then carries the loaded magazine through the rotating saws, which cut the block into fish fingers according to the invention. The fish fingers are then discharged from the magazine. The conveyer may be an endless conveyer (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), carrying a plurality of magazines (22).
