978,760. Cutting frozen fish &c. L. ROBINSON. Nov. 29, 1963 [Dec. 8, 1962], No. 46393/62. Heading A4C. Apparatus for cutting frozen slabs of fish and the like into fingers or "steaks" comprises a plurality of rows of pairs of circular cutters 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, and 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, the spacing apart of cutters 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of each pair diminishing progressively towards the end pair 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and means for moving the slab and the cutters relatively so that the slab is passed between the cutters of each pair to produce a progressively deeper cut. In one embodiment (Figs. 1, 3) a cutter assembly 2 is reciprocated along a base 1 past a slab supported on a hopper base 14, the slab being held stationary by thrust members 4 carried by an end stop 3 and the cutters 5, 5<SP>1</SP> passing into slots between the thrust members 4 when the assembly 2 is advanced. The cut fish fingers are carried to a surface by retraction of the cutter assembly 2. In another embodiment (Fig. 7) the cutter assembly 2 is stationary and the slabs are advanced between projections 19 carried on a plurality of spaced endless bands 16 which pass between the cutters. The cutters 5, 5<SP>1</SP> may be either driven or freely rotatable.
