Abstract

A feed system for positioning lengths of wood, one at a time in front of a circular saw, so that they can be cut accurately into two equal pieces, has each piece (30) mounted on a conveying device (2) which is advanced at constant speed along a track (1) at right angles to the saw blade cutting line (4), to move past a photo-electric cell (E) positioned ahead of the cutting position and another photo-electric cell (M) at the cutting position. These operate with a programming device to slow each workpiece down at a constant deceleration to stop at the cutting position. Two methods are described one where the first cell (E) is spaced a greater distance than the length of the workpiece from the cutting point, and the other has the cell located at half or more of this distance.
