Abstract
1,149,758. Coking coal. INSTITUT FUR ENERGETIK. 14 April, 1966, No. 16429/66. Heading C5G. In a two-stage process for coking finegrained coal the coal is first preheated in a fluidized preheating chamber comprising at least two zones to a temperature below the softening point of the coal by means of hot gases obtained by combustion of the gas produced in the coking process and the thus preheated coal is fed to a horizontal or vertical coking chamber. Gases leaving the preheating chamber may be recycled to control the temperature within the preheating chamber. In the preheating chamber the coal is passed downwardly through at least two superposed zones, each zone, having a base in the form of a grating with an overflow pipe discharging into the or a lower zone, the free cross-sectional area of an upper grating being greater than the subjacent lower grating.
