Abstract

1,149,487. Fired clay bricks. REDLAND BRICKS Ltd. 29 April, 1966, No. 19073/66. Heading C1J. Building bricks are made by incorporating, in a clay mix, a proportion of fibres capable of being burnt out during firing, forming the mix into bricks, and drying and firing the bricks so as to burn out the fibres. The fibres are preferably chopped straw. The clay mix containing the fibres may be preheated with steam, prior to shaping and drying. The bricks may be dried at 225-250‹ F. by dielectric heating, and fired at, for example, 1050‹ C. In an example the raw mix comprises clay, ground chalk, crushed coke breeze and chopped straw.
