Abstract
Carboniferous slate is pre-roasted at 800-1000 degrees C, cooled rapidly, and then fired above 1000 degrees C and again quenched. The comminuted chamotte can be used at an amount of at least 90% by wt. as an aggregate component which is mixed with water and burnt at a temperature equal to or below the firing temperature of the clay.
