Abstract
Low alkali content cement clinker is produced by burning the raw material on a flame-heated grate so that the material in a sintering zone is above 1500 DEG C. The raw material may be pelletized with water prior to burning. The burning may be carried out in an apparatus comprising a travelling grate, means for depositing on said grate previously fully burned returns to form an underlayer, means for depositing on said underlayer a top layer of fresh raw material, and three chambers associated with the grate, the first for preheating, the second for sintering and the third for cooling.
