Abstract

[Also in Division B2] A sound-deadening material in sheet form which is capable of being laid on an upward facing surface of a metal panel and is adapted to wilt into conformity with the contour of the surface of the panel when the material is heated in an oven comprises a sheet of filled bituminous composition coated on at least that surface which is intended to be positioned against the panel with a coating of a polyurethane composition fusible at a temperature at which the material wilts into conformity with the surface of the panel and capable on cooling of bonding the sheet firmly to the panel. The bituminous composition preferably comprises a mixture of bitumen with a butadiene-rubber and the sheet thereof is preferably perforated prior to coating. The other surface of the bituminous sheet preferably is coated with a fusible material, e.g. polyethylene or polyurethane. In a preferred embodiment, the perforated sheet is coated with polyurethane by dipping in a polyurethane sheet. The examples describe the application of the sounddeadening materials to metal panels of car bodies.
