Abstract

1424613 Laminating foraminous layers on a surface PLASTICS DESIGN & ENG Ltd 7 June 1974 [7 March 1973] 11026/73 Heading B5N A surface is coated with layers of foraminous material by attaching fixing devices to the surface, mounting at least one layer thereon to overlay the surface, applying one or more further layers at least the outermost of which covers the fixing devices, and impregnating all the layers, either before or after placing them in position, to bond them to one another. Metal, wood and concrete surfaces may be coated. In one embodiment, a tank is lined with chopped strand glass fibre mat impregnated with polyester resin. Studs are welded at intervals to the tank surface and a first layer of mats is loosely held in place by spring washers on the studs. The studs are then cut to a desired length and the mats are impregnated throughout. After peening to tighten the washers, a second layer of mats is applied over the first layer, and is similarly impregnated. Preferably the second layer covers the peened studs, but, if not, a narrow mat strip may be applied for this purpose.
