Abstract

1,148,747. Propellant charges. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORP. 13 June, 1966 [11 June, 1965], No. 26298/66. Heading F3A. [Also in Divisions C3 and F1] A gas generator comprises a case 1, a solid gas-generating propellant 6 within the case, ignition means 2, 3, 5 adapted to ignite said propellant, a weather seal 11 positioned between said propellant -and said case, and a zeolite barrier 10 positioned between said weather-seal and said solid-propellant. The weather seal is preferably a laminate of aluminium and polyethylene terephthalate and the zeolite layer may be granulated zeolite with or without a layer of rubber composition containing zeolite. The generator may also comprise a sustainer 9, a flame shield 8, restrictors 12 and 13, and a zeolites packet 16, having a cover 17 with openings 18. The invention is based on the fact that zeolite absorbs the water liberated by ammoniumnitrate propellant when - subjected to wide fluctuations in temperature.
