Abstract
1311077 Explosive compositions H W SHEERAN and M H ORIARD 17 Aug 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 38606/71 Heading C1D A particulate blasting explosive or other particulate composition contains a filamentforming tackifying agent bonding the particles into pourable non-segregating agglomerates, the tackifying agent comprising a mixture of water, polyacrylamide and an alcohol, e.g. methanol, glycerol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, or propylene glycol. The composition may also include an oxidizer, a fuel and a bulking agent. The oxidizer may be ammonium nitrate, part of which may be replaced by calcium, potassium, or sodium nitrate or a perchlorate, the fuel a hydrocarbon, an alcohol, or nitroglycerine or nitroglycol, and the bulking agent polystyrene or styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer foam, vermiculite, hydrobiotite, jeffersite, perlite, pumicite, or expanded shale. The density of the composition may be from 0À03 to 1À27 gms./cc. The blasting composition may be used for "presplitting" or "sound wall" blasting.
