Abstract

Spandex filaments which have been formed by extruding a polyester-diisocyanate or a polyether-diisocyanate reaction product through a spinning jet into a coagulating bath containing a polyfunctional reagent which is capable of reacting with the reaction product to form the spandex product in filamentary form, are treated with formaldehyde. Suitably aqueous formaldehyde is used at 0À5-20% wt. concentration, and the treatment is effected before the filaments have been dried. The filaments may be stretched before treating. The coagulating polyfunctional reagent is suitably a diamine, e.g. 1,2-diaminopropane, 1,3-diaminopropane, 1,4-diaminocyclohexane and 3,3<SP>1</SP>- diaminodipropylether, or is a hydroxy compound.
