Abstract

1444812 Collagen staple fibre NIPPI Inc 12 Oct 1973 47762/73 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions C3 and D1-D2] Staple fibres of tanned collagen fibres are spun from solubilized collagen that is essentially telopeptide free. Collagenous material (specified) is treated with either a protease in an acidic aqueous medium or an amine, alkali and sodium sulphate in aqueous medium, whereby there is obtained for spinning a monomolecularly dispersed solution of collagen free of telopeptide linkages, the spinning solution containing 1- 10% w./v. collagen, pH 2-4, is extruded at a draw ratio of between 1À5 and 30 through a spinneret with 330 holes of 0À08 mm. diameter into a saturated sodium sulphate solution of pH 3-4 to form spun collagen fibre, the fibre is cut and tanned (in either order) to form tanned collagen staple fibre and non-woven fabric is formed from staple fibres in a conventional manner.
