Abstract

1,145,854. Moulding confectionery with centres. NESTLE'S PRODUCTS Ltd. 19 July, 1966 [21 April, 1965], No. 16798/65. Heading B5A. Confectionery articles, e.g. hard boilings, jellies, pastilles, toffees and caramels, pastes and chocolate articles, are provided with centres of a different material, e.g. jam, jelly or nuts, in moulding apparatus wherein mould plates (2) (the Provisional Drawing not shown) which are provided with tapered apertures (1) are carried on an endless chain 10 whereby they converge to co-operate in a horizontal path with plates (3), carried on an endless chain 11 and carrying oppositely tapered upstanding cores (6), to define a moulding cavity into which boilings are deposited from a hopper 12 whereafter the moulds traverse a cooling tunnel 13 before the plate-carrying chains 10, 11 separate to withdraw the cores (6) and a conveyer belt 9 converges with chain 10 to provide a support at the base of the inverted moulding cavities in the returning horizontal traverse of chain 10 as the centre material is deposited, from a hopper 15. The moulded recess is then closed by material deposited from a hopper 16, prior to passage through the cooling tunnel 13 and downward separation of belt 9 from chain 10 with the cooled moulded articles deposited on to belt 9 by a plunger 17. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 12 (not shown), mould plates (18), Figs. 6-10 (not shown), provided with tapered openings, traverse a horizontal path carried by an endless chain (19) which cooperates with a conveyer belt (21) to define moulding cavities into which a soft mass is deposited from hopper (22) whereafter, during passage through a cooling tunnel (23), an endless chain (20) converges to press cores (6) into the upper part of the cooling soft mass to define a cavity into which, after separation of chain (20), centre material and recess closing material are deposited from hoppers (24, 25), whereafter the chain (19) separates from the belt (21) for a horizontal lower return run thereof through the cooling tunnel (23) whereafter the moulded articles are expelled on to a conveyer belt (27) by a plunger (26) on the upper run of the chain (19) prior to refilling of the moulds. Instead of the belt (21), plates may be provided carried by a chain whereby the finished moulded articles have convex bases. The mould apertures and cores are lined with P.T.F.E. or silicone rubber.
