Abstract
1,050,699. Moulding soft confectionery. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. Nov. 20, 1964 [Nov. 13, 1963], No. 44860/63. Heading B5A. Soft confectionery, e.g. soft centres for chocolates, marshmallow &c. is moulded in a mould cavity containing a small quantity of release agent and having a number of minute holes in its base, and ejected by inverting the mould and blowing air through the holes. A series of moulds 20, each having a number of moulding cavities in the bases of which are minute holes, are conveyed by an endless chain conveyer through a control zone 23 where the cavities are sprayed at 22 with a release agent, then under a moving head depositor 24 from which molten confectionery material is discharged into the cavities after which the moulds move through a cooling station 25 and then through a mould turn-over unit 16 which inverts the moulds. The moulds then pass through a device 27 which blows air through the holes to eject the moulded confection on to a conveyer belt below the moulds. The moulds move on to a station 28 where they are turned the right way up and then back to the control zone and the cycle is repeated. The ejector unit 27 comprises a reciprocating carriage which can move forwardly with the moulds and carrying pressure plates which can be brought into sealing engagement with the inverted moulds, and means for blowing air through the plates to discharge the confectionery from the mould cavities. A pneumatic control system is described and illustrated. The release agent may be liquid fat or a powder such as powdered magnesium stearate.
